Review:

FarCry Primal is a game which can be purchased across many platforms, but I play on PlayStation. I’ve owned the game for some years and this is the second time I’ve completed it. The first time was in October 2019. Wow, five years ago, where’s that time gone?

As the cover suggests, the game is set in prehistoric times. It is not unusual to runs into mammoths, sabertooth tigers and a long list of other animals. It’s an open world game, which I enjoy playing. You can do the main missions and/or side quests in any order once you’ve opened them. But sometimes it’s best to follow the main missions until you receive all the upgrades and weapons you need to make the rest of the game a little easier.

I enjoyed the game, the graphics are good despite the age of the game. There’s a believable storyline too, which is neither here nor there for me as I’m not always interested in who, when, where and why. I often don’t even listen to what’s being said and, more often than not (if the option is available) I will skip the yabba yabba. I just want to build things, kill things, find things and enjoy a few hours away from real life. That’s just me though, some people will rate a game purely on the storyline.

The fact that the player can choose their favourite playing style is a bonus too. You can use stealth (which is my favourite) to sneak in to an outpost and kill everyone before they know you’re even a threat. Or, if you prefer, you can run in guns ablaze (or in this case bow, spear, or club) and run around like a crazed person and kill everyone. Whatever suits you.

My only complaint was that I opened the use of fire bombs and couldn’t work out how to use them. There was no short training session, or a quick message to say do this or that to access them. But it worked out that only the owl could drop them from above. I love that owl, so useful.

Because I have played the game before, I had a good idea what was required and it only took we two weekends to complete it. That wasn’t too bad, even if I do say so myself. Anyway, I enjoyed the game and would recommend it.
