I joined Critique Circle just before Christmas. I had the first part of my chapter book – Cat’s Eyes – up for critique in the week between Christmas and New Year. I was desperate to get critiques, however, it wasn’t good thinking on my part, because I know that most people are extremely busy during that time. I only received three critiques (and one of them wasn’t helpful at all). Never mind.
This week, I have part 2 up for critique (and I’ve received 2 crits in the first 24 hours; it’s up for 7 days) and next week I’ll upload part 3. I’ll continue to upload one part each week, which means I’ll be ready to start editing in about a month.
In the meantime, I want to finish planning Squatters and start writing it. Hopefully, I’ll finish the first draft too, but I refuse to put pressure on myself.
On a sidenote, the Critique Circle software is really good. I even went as far as contacting the person who wrote it and asked if it was available to the public. Unfortunately, it’s not. The Workshop, which is only available to long term members of my message board, would have benefited if I had the use of such a system. If anyone knows where I can find software to use for a critique group, please let me know. Ideally, it would automatically give credits for each crit done by each member, it wouldn’t allow anyone to submit a story/chapter if they didn’t have the credits to “pay” for it, and, we’d have somewhere to discuss the crits/stories after the critting was over (a forum preferably inbuilt).
I’ve searched the net, but can’t find anything like this. So, please, if you know of something, tell me.
